Director of Evidence-Based Programs at the Institute, Jessie Watrous, in her work with the Consortium for Evidence-Based Practice in Child Welfare, contributed to guidance for states to address Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) requirements. The Consortium partnered with the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare to provide tools for states to select evidence-based services as they strive to meet FFPSA requirements. Passed in 2018, the federal FFPSA law provides fiscal incentives to encourage the use of evidence-based and trauma-informed prevention programs for protecting the nation’s children. The tools provided help states identify programs that help address gaps in service and also improve outcomes. This guidance helps communities clearly define target audiences, avoid duplication in their programs, build from their strengths, and create buy-in from stakeholders and partner agencies.
