The Maryland Youth Homelessness Symposium is a statewide event sponsored by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development to provide a space for all to collaborate towards ending and preventing youth homelessness in Maryland. The Symposium is designed to bring together youth, service providers, local and state government agencies, funders, policymakers, advocates, and anyone who wants to learn more about how we can work together to address youth homelessness.
The first Symposium was held May 1 & 2, 2019 in Annapolis. It included sessions and workshops on known best practices, opportunities for cross-collaboration and community planning, and the chance to hear from youth themselves on what we can do to better to support them.
Maryland has made it a priority to address youth homelessness and work towards ending and preventing it within the State, aligning with the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness’ goal to end youth homelessness. The Symposium is informed by the work of Youth REACH MD – that a staggering number of youth are experiencing homelessness across all parts of Maryland and that the supports they need are lacking. Together, we are working to build collaboration across sectors by developing, sharing, and expanding best practices across the State.
